Small DSVB Membership Badge #7

Posted in Medallions & Badges with tags , , on October 15, 2013 by The Dude

Flag_of_the_NSDAP_(1920–1945).svgThis is the seventh of my small Tyroler DSVB badges. On the front is “Stands Shützenverband Tyrol Voralberg 1940“. This is for the shooting association of Tyrol for 1940. I think this is a participation badge rather than an award because it doesn’t provide a weapons class like the others I have.

German-American Bund Membership Badge

Posted in Medallions & Badges with tags , , , on August 15, 2013 by The Dude

Flag_of_the_NSDAP_(1920–1945).svgFlag_of_the_United_StatesThis is an interesting enamel badge manufactured by the Apollo Jewelry Manufacturing Company of Brooklyn, New York. The Apollo Jewelry Company later became a significant supplier to the U.S. Military and operated right into the 60’s. In this case this badge indicates membership in the German-American Bund, the pro-Nazi organisation that flourished right up until the day the US entered the war. After Pearl Harbor the organisation lost membership rapidly, both due to patriotic currents and because the membership immediately became suspect to the Government due to the fact that Germany had declared war on the U.S.

The AV stands for “Amerika-deutscher Volksbund”.

East German Artillery Marksmen Lanyard Badge

Posted in Medallions & Badges with tags , , on July 30, 2013 by The Dude

Flag_of_German_Democratic_RepublicThis is the badge off an East German Marksman Lanyard for the Artillery (Artillerie Schützenschnur). It’s the silver version, if I had the actual lanyard as well that would be a 500 euro item. I don’t. So it’s an annoying thing that sits in my cabinet.

German WW2 Shooting Lanyard Badge Pair

Flag_of_the_NSDAP_(1920–1945).svgThis is a pair of the badges that would be fitted to the WW2 Wehrmacht Shooting Lanyard. In this case they came complete but with the prongs broken from the reverse. I glued them back into place so they wouldn’t be lost.
