German Große Gewehrpanzergranate

Posted in Grenades with tags , , , on July 4, 2014 by The Dude

Flag_of_the_NSDAP_(1920–1945).svgThis is the most common of the anti-tank type rifle grenades manufactured by the Germans. It’s also known as the Mod 40. Introduced in 1942 this weapon could penetrate 70mm of armour due to its shaped charge HEAT design. This particular one was manufactured in 1944 by Theodor Bergmann & Co. KG Waffen-u. Munitionsfabrik in Berlin.

Flag_of_the_NSDAP_(1920–1945).svgIn 1938 the Waffen-ϟϟ, still not integrated into the Wehrmacht supply chain, contracted with the DWM company (Deutsche Waffen- und Munitionsfabriken Aktien-Gesellschaft) to supply ammunition for their troops. These are some examples of empty brass head stamped for the SS, sourced from Eastern Europe. The TV stands for Totenkopfverbände.

Flag_of_the_NSDAP_(1920–1945).svgThis is a standard 5cm round for the German Granatwerfer 36 50mm light mortar. This weapon remained in use right through the war due to the ease by which it could be carried however production was phased out in 1941-1942. This round was manufactured by Bergische Stahlindustrie K.G. in Reimsheid-Homsburg and has the date 3.12.42.

Wurkörper 361 LP Pistol Grenade

Posted in Grenades with tags , , , on November 10, 2013 by The Dude

Flag_of_the_NSDAP_(1920–1945).svgHere’s an interesting one. This is a pistol grenade designed for a 27mm type signal pistol. The end of the bakelite stick has a shotgun cartridge type primer. When the grenade was fired it would be thrown from the pistol and timed to explode about 4 seconds later. The grenade on the end is basically a type E-39.

Flag_of_the_NSDAP_(1920–1945).svgA fairly boring little piece of equipment, this is the speed loader for an MP-40 machine pistol magazine. This one is marked fxo41 and MP38u40.

Faustpatrone Klein Round

Posted in Missiles & Projectiles with tags , , , , , on November 10, 2013 by The Dude

Flag_of_the_NSDAP_(1920–1945).svgThis is a complete round for the Panzerfaust 30 or Klein recoilless antitank rifle. If you compare this to the pimped up reproduction I have here you’ll see the difference. I discovered too late that the rear ends of these things were never painted. This one is a franken-round in that I married a head that I already had with a water retrieved tail piece that I found later.

German Steyr-Mannlicher 8x56mm Ammunition

Posted in Ammunition & Fusing with tags , , , , on October 27, 2013 by The Dude

Flag_of_the_NSDAP_(1920–1945).svgWith the takeover of Austria by Nazi Germany in 1936 a large number of Mannlicher rifles came into their possession. These were sold off to Germany’s allies such as Bulgaria which took possession of thousands of M95/30 rifles. This ammunition was produced in 1938 and has the Nazi eagle headstamp.

Flag_of_the_NSDAP_(1920–1945).svgThese are some examples of wartime production Mauser 7.92×57 rounds, the standard Wehrmacht rifle and machinegun round. These examples include the standard schweres Spitzgeschoß type as well as the S m E round designed to avoid the use of lead in the projectile and S.m.K., which is the armour piercing round used for targets in hard cover or in vehicles.

Flag_of_the_NSDAP_(1920–1945).svgThese rounds are the Kurz rounds used in the MP43/44 or StG assault rifle. These particular ones were made in 1944 and were taken into use by the East German Army as evidenced by the label dating from 1961. The DDR Army ceased using the MP44 in 1962.

Panzer Faust Klein Round

Posted in Fakes & Replicas, Missiles & Projectiles with tags , , , , , on August 14, 2013 by The Dude

Flag_of_the_NSDAP_(1920–1945).svgHere is my latest import, a Panzerfaust Klein round in terrific condition (too terrific, see below). The tube intended to fire this can be seen here. The tube was intended to be fired once and then discarded although at times they were collected and sent back to the factory to be recharged. This is not a rocket launcher, it is a recoilless gun. The projectile is thrust out of the tube using a gunpowder charge and only had a range of about 30m. It didn’t have the punch to destroy heavier armour and was later replaced by the Panzerfaust 30, Panzerfaust 60, Panzerfaust 100 and Panzerschreck.

Upon exploring further it appears that I have added to my reproduction collection inadvertently.  This is why I hate Jerry stuff. This one is indeed a repro that has been fiddled with in order to deceive. The originals were never painted on the shaft behind the charge container.

Storage Box for 75mm Infantry Gun Fuzes

Posted in Ammunition & Fusing with tags , , , , on April 20, 2013 by The Dude

Flag_of_the_NSDAP_(1920–1945).svgThis is an airtight transport box for 75mm fuzes for a German Infantry gun. The case is dated 2.9.44. It’s an amazingly well constructed case with a complex catch system and dovetailed joints. I have to ask why, after 5 years of war, the Germans were still spending so much attention making essentially throw away gear so well.

MG34 50 Round Ammunition Drum

Flag_of_the_NSDAP_(1920–1945).svgHeavily overpainted but still with the original dunkelgrün paint showing through underneath. Yes I did attach this to my MG34. Yes it did fall off with 50 rounds in it and hit my toe.

Raketenpanzerbuechse 54 Panzerschreck Rocket

Posted in Missiles & Projectiles with tags , , , , on April 16, 2013 by The Dude

Flag_of_the_NSDAP_(1920–1945).svgWhat a beauty. This is the RPzB54 rocket made to fit the Panzerschreck. It is a fin-stabilised, rocket propelled grenade. This example is the Arkt 44/45 model. It is also very sexy.

Faustpatrone 30 Klein

Posted in Missiles & Projectiles with tags , , , , on April 14, 2013 by The Dude

Flag_of_the_NSDAP_(1920–1945).svgHere is a head that I have for my Faustpatrone 30 Klein. This is a recoilless gun, not a rocket launcher. The black powder charge in the tube was all of the propellant that the charge had to send it on its way. This head is missing the tail section and stabilizer fins.
