A Death Penny to William Birchall

These are a little depressing to find. Each fatal casualty in WW1 in the UK was entitled to a memorial plaque, accompanied by a scroll. The plaques were soon nicknamed “death pennies”. Over the decades they often get separated from the scroll and the recipients medals. If you are lucky, the name is unique. Otherwise you have to guess which particular soldier earned it. This one is named to William Birchall, of which there are three on the CWGC website.
