MP-34 Machine Pistol Bayonet

They were made from the Portuguese M1904 contract bayonet and supplied with the MP34 on the Portugal contract in 1942. Honestly, if you are down to a bayonet after emptying your MP34 then you are right up shit creek IMHO. Visually very similar to the 1904 bayonet, the key is the distance between the two fitting screws on the handle. Also note that the mannlicher M95 bayonet also fits this weapon. I have spent 5 years looking for one of these that wasn’t priced stupidly and EBay finally came through.

Mannlicher M95/30 Carbine

In this example it is the Kavaliere Repetier-Carabiner M1895 or carbine /30 in 8x56R caliber. Most likely this was cut down to stutzen length when it was converted from the 8×50 caliber in the thirties.

M95/30 was a conversion in the First Austrian Republic by Steyr-Mannlicher during 1930–1940. These rifles carry the letter S meaning Spitzer stamped on the barrel. Main modification was the rechambering to 8×56mmR cartridge. Other changes were the conversion of ladder sights from the older pace unit to meters and addition of a brass front sight protector. Many long rifles were cut down to Stutzen length. Most of M95/30s were sent to Bulgaria during 1938–40, where front sight protectors were removed.

These rifles were also used by second line units as well as the Balkan allies of Germany. This particular example shows an Austrian acceptance mark HV 35 indicating it was accepted into service in 1935 after being modified for the new round.

Richtaufsatz-35 8cm Mortar Optical Sight

Flag_of_the_NSDAP_(1920–1945).svgThis is an RA-35 optical sight for the Granatwerfer 34 8cm medium mortar. The sight shows signs of post war use by the Austrians (the green over paint). The sight was manufactured by Hanseatische Werkstätten für Feinmechanik u. Optik, in Hamburg-Schnelsen and is marked with their CRN code.

MP 34ö Cleaning Kit

Steyr Maschinenpistole 34 österreichisch

Labelled the MP34ö by the Germans to differentiate it from the Bergman MP34, the ö stood for Austrian (Österreichisch). This weapon was very well manufactured and this led to its downfall since it made it expensive to build when compared with competitors like the MP38/40 or later MP43/44. It’s service life was limited to use by police units and later the Waffen-ϟϟ. There were a number of these that were exported to Portugal, some of the later ones were chambered in 9mm Luger.

I believe this to be one of those wartime manufactures as it has WaA189 stamps on the frame and bolt indicating it was manufactured in the Steyr-Daimler plant in Warsaw, Poland. The stock has the Portuguese crown stamped into it as well as the number 1942, which I assume is the contract year.

And finally, a couple of photos of it with an M95 Steyr bayonet fitted. In German service this would be correct. In Portuguese service these were fitted with a purpose made Mp34 bayonet.

Austrian Steyr-Mannlicher M95 Bayonet

Flag_of_AustriaThis Austrian bayonet was originally made to fit the M1895 Steyr-Mannlicher infantry rifle. I am not a bayonet guy by any ways or means although I have a handful. I got it because it fits the MP34ö submachinegun that I own. The MP34ö was issued to Austrian forces and made its way in Wehrmacht use after the Anschluss. Most of the production was sold in a Portuguese contract and those MP’s were issued with a Simson & Co Söhn MP34 bayonet. The examples that stayed in Austrian service were fitted with an M95 bayonet like this one.

Steyr MP-34ö Magazine Pouch

Flag_of_the_NSDAP_(1920–1945).svgThis unmarked magazine pouch was manufactured to hold three magazines for the Austrian Steyr MP-34. This machine pistol was taken into German service after the Anschluss as the MP-34ö to distinguish it from the Bergmann MP-34. I have an example of this submachine-gun here.
